Round up!

We have been super busy with our learning recently. We enjoyed a fantastic day out at Lulworth cove, exploring and using our geography skills.

We have been learning all about angles in Maths and recognising acute, obtuse and right angles.

In Literacy we have been reading an interesting book called Flotsam. We had a message in the bottle delivered to school asking for some help to find out where the old camera and the pictures had come from. We have really enjoyed exploring this book!

I was also incredibly proud of everyones team work and support during Sports Day! Everyone cheered eachother on, thank you to those who joined us.

Here are some of the different things we have been up to! Have a lovely resat of your week, hopefully the sun will shine again soon!

Miss Mansell

Super Science

This half term, we have been learning all about PLANTS! We have been super scientists and some of the things we have explored include seeing how water can be transported to other parts of a plant by the stem, learning how bees and other insects pollinate plants by using post-it notes and buzzing around the field, transferring ‘pollen’ and discovering what plants need to grow healthily.

We have also been learning about the rainforest in our Geography topic learning and discovering the importance of looking after them! Thank you for all your support with our ‘Green Day’ for the rainforest. We used the rainforest as our inspiration for an art project and we have created our own unique leaf which has been put altogether to make our own class canopy from the rainforest. We spent lots of time looking closely at different leaves and sketching them to help us design ours. Alsongside our giant art piece, we also sketched some ‘mindful leaves’ using just pencil. See below at some of our beautiful pieces we have created.

I hope you have a wonderful, restful half term break and I’m looking forward to seeing you all for Summer 2! Miss Mansell

RNLI Beach lifeguard visit

We started our week with a fantastic assembly from the RNLI beach lifeguards who spoke all about their important role. They also shared some safety tips on how we can stay safe when we visit the beach.

We learnt about what the different flags mean and that we can FLOAT like a starfish if we feel tired or get into trouble in the water before waving for a lifeguard to help.

Roman Day

What a busy week…. finishing with our super Roman day!

We experienced what it would have been like in the Roman Army and marching with Mrs Wray in the hall. We explored what life would have been like in the Roman era and then designed and painted our own shields.

I hope you all have a lovely, well deserved Easter break!

Aladdin!

Well what a performance! I am so proud of everyone for all their hard work and a super performance over the last couple of days! From all the singing and dancing to the rehearsing and line learning. Everyone has been so fantastic and I hope you all enjoyed watching the show as much as I did!

The BIG Plastic Count!

A message from Mr Moore about the Big Plastic Count:

We would like you and your child to take part in the The Big Plastic Count 2024 from Monday 11th in the morning to Sunday 17th March in the evening.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0nQHO7Mw-k

In 2022, nearly 250,000 people from schools, households and communities across the country made The Big Plastic Count the biggest ever investigation into UK household plastic waste. It showed that nearly 100 billion pieces of plastic are thrown away in the UK each year, with hardly any of it recycled.

The rest is burned, sent abroad or ends up in landfill. We can’t recycle our way out of the plastic waste crisis.

By joining thousands of people across the country and counting all the plastic you throw away for a week, you can gather the vital evidence needed to convince UK ministers, supermarkets and big brands to lead the way at the global talks that could finally phase out plastic production for good.

It’s easy!  count as you throw!

Simply mark every piece of plastic package as you throw it away in your bin or recycling on the Let’s Count Tally Sheet

TOP TIPS

1.       Put the Let’s Count Tally Sheet up on your fridge, or near your bin or recycling.

2.       Tell everyone you live with that you’re going to be taking part and ask them to include their plastic waste in the count too.

3.       Using the Let’s Count Tally Sheet, record the different types of household plastic packaging waste you use for one week. This includes plastic going in your bin and plastic you put out for recycling.

4.       Use the Plastic ID Tool to look up plastic items if you need to.

5.       Remember to write down any piece of plastic packaging you use while out and about, then mark it on your tally sheet when you get back home.

Record your results online by 31st March using your class unique link. The platform will be able to work out each class plastic carbon footprint as well as our schools.

Our week: 01.03.2024

Welcome to March! This week we began to explore mass and measuring the weight of different objects using both grams and kilograms. We have been reading different measurements on scales and also estimating the different weights of objects around the classroom. Below is a great game you can try at home to help practice reading different scales in grams and kilograms. Click here for the game link.

We have also been thinking about our Damer’s way of being and our school values. We wanted to create some posters that reflected our thoughts and feelings about these values. Here are some off our designs:

Just a reminder that our trip to the Roman Town house is on Tuesday 5th March. Please remember a coat, snack and water bottle. We will be back at school in time for lunch at the normal time. Have a lovely, restful weekend, Miss Mansell.
